Moonshot Detected: the momentum names inside the Top 10

Up to three of the monthly Top 10 are companies the market has kept repricing upward, admitted only through the same safety checks as every pick and only when market conditions favor them. Clearly badged.

Last updated October 12, 2026

Since the October 2026 edition, the monthly Top 10 is built from two kinds of conviction. Seven picks come from our model's highest-conviction rankings - the compounding discipline the rest of this methodology describes. Up to three more are Moonshot Detected Companies: names showing strong, sustained market momentum (a share price the market has kept pushing up, month after month) that pass every one of our safety checks.

The momentum picks are part of the ten, not a side list. On the Top 10 page they carry a badge, so you always know which kind of conviction you are looking at. They are bought at equal weight like the rest (every pick starts with the same share of the list), they count against the same four-per-sector cap, and they go through the same human review before an edition is published.

The October 2026 edition, published on 1 October, was the first with the momentum slots open: three of its ten names carry the Moonshot Detected badge, next to seven core picks. Subscribers see which three on the Top 10 page.

When they appear, and when they do not

The momentum slots are filled only when our reading of market conditions says they favor them. In other months the edition simply carries ten core picks. That is the design working, not a gap: momentum is a fair-weather strategy, and our research led us to let it rest when the weather turns.

Some months there are Moonshot Detected companies, some months there are none, and either way the list you see is the list the model and its rules produced that month.

What makes a Moonshot Detected company

A candidate has to show real, sustained market strength - a business the market has been repricing for months, not a one-week spike - and it has to clear the same safety filters every Top 10 candidate faces before it can be considered. A company in visible financial distress cannot ride its momentum into the list, whatever its chart looks like.

The specific measures and thresholds stay internal, the same way the scoring recipe does.

How to read them

The momentum picks are a different bet from the core seven. A core pick is a long-term judgment about the business; a Moonshot Detected pick is a judgment that strength persists while conditions support it. They rotate more often - a name that loses its momentum gives up its slot at a monthly refresh - so expect more turnover in the badged names than in the rest of the list.

Common questions

Are Moonshot Detected companies part of the Top 10?

Yes - since October 2026 they are up to three of the ten, clearly badged. Before that, 'Moonshot' named a separate research list that was never part of the Top 10; the name carried over, the mechanism did not.

Why are there no Moonshot Detected companies some months?

The momentum slots open only when market conditions favor them, by our own reading of the market. In other months the edition carries ten core picks. That is deliberate - momentum is not an all-weather strategy.

Do the momentum picks skip the safety checks?

No. They pass the same filters and the same human review as every other pick, and they count against the same sector cap. Momentum gets a company considered; it does not get anything waved through.
