"Sounds confident" is not a source.

Three awkward questions for your AI.

These assistants have got genuinely good at explaining a business. They have not got any better at telling you when they are guessing, and the writing quality is identical either way. That is the whole problem.

Three follow-ups, in this order.

What is your source? Not "is that right", which just invites agreement. A real answer names a filing, a report, a dataset. A bad one restates the claim in fresh words, and that restatement is the tell.

What date is that from? This catches the most damage in practice. A model will describe a company's margins or management exactly as they were two years ago, in confident present tense. Anything undated is a claim about the past dressed as a claim about now.

Which part of that was an assumption? Ask it to separate what it read from what it worked out. The inferred half is where your own work belongs.

None of this makes the answer trustworthy. It makes it checkable, which is a different and more useful thing.

If you want the assistant to answer from dated figures rather than memory, our connector is on every plan including the free one. It is read only, and it returns exactly the data your plan already includes.

If assistants are not part of your routine, the three questions work just as well on an analyst note.
